“Whoever has been born of God does not sin, for His seed remains in him; and he cannot sin, because he has been born of God.”
I John 3:9 NKJ
You might have just stopped and said “Wow, I sinned before I even got out of church! To read that verse honestly is to ask, "am I really saved because I still unfortunately sin?" So what’s up here?
This is why it’s so important when studying the Bible to look at other versions. Now let’s look at this same verse from the Amplified Bible. “No one born (begotten) of God [deliberately, knowingly, and habitually] practices sin, for God's nature abides in him [His principle of life, the divine sperm, remains permanently within him]; and he cannot practice sinning because he is born (begotten) of God.”
Yes, I occasionally still mess up (sin), but I don’t habitually or practice sin. You see, when a person gets born again, that desire to practice sin is replaced with a desire to please God. It’s actually a good thing that you feel bad about sin in your life. That’s evidence of the work of the Holy Spirit in your heart. So what about the sin we commit? 1 John 1:7 says that the blood of Jesus Christ cleanses from all sin! Praise God - hallelujah!
