“Elders who do their work well should be respected and paid well, especially those who work hard at both preaching and teaching. (18) For the Scripture says, “You must not muzzle an ox to keep it from eating as it treads out the grain.” And in another place, “Those who work deserve their pay!””
1 Timothy 5:17-18
I could just avoid these verses since I pastor, but this is what the Bible says, not me . First of all there is nothing that commands ministers to be poor in the New Testament . On the contrary it says “paid well”. Other versions say double honor. In my case I work part time, and my wife works full time. The church compensates me as well. I am certainly not getting rich, but I believe it’s fair and I am content. I love Eastgate church!! I can’t imagine being anywhere else! What I want you to know is whether you attend our church or another, “take care of your pastor“ whoever they are! God does not want your pastor worn out and barely getting by in life . Hebrews 13:17 says, “Obey those who rule over you, and be submissive, for they watch out for your souls, as those who must give account. Let them do so with joy and not with grief, for that would be unprofitable for you.”
The bottom line is this , if a pastor is struggling and miserable its harmful for your church.
